So I'm just a black girl
Dealing with a man's world;
I'm a diva, finding my career,
Work the night shift in a black man's bar
Under these white men's rules,

I take the glamour when it's high -
Adorned with bright colours and charisma
That the white women just can't buy.

Yeah, i know, i see the discrimination in your eyes,
You're all the same; you're loose,
You're low and lazy,
Just 'cause the air i breathe is hazy -
It's thick with your thoughts
And our anguish,
And there ain't no way this air can be cleared for a long time,
     my friend.

But, maybe this ain't my place to say,
I'm just working the night shift,
Collecting my coppers then I'll be on my way.
But there'll always be room enough for me, you'll see!
In a black man's bar;
We'll break your white men rules
One day, someday, tomorrow, maybe...
'Cause have our voice
And you'll hear it long,  and loud,  and clear
Under a jazz beat an a cry, and yessir! You'll know!
You'll just know!

Well, maybe I ain't a black girl,
I ain't no diva, though sometimes i wish...
But I still drag under these white men rules,
And if I had a side I'd choose
The place  where you're just another
Black
Face.

But maybe it's not my place.
Hell, I'm only a white girl.
What would i know? What could I believe
Apart from what I've been told?
How did I earn MY soul?
Well, we went to a Young Writers festival (which was really awesome :D ) and i got very inspired by all these different poets and this book i bought there: 'Mornings and Midnights' by Ronni Smith. It's a collection of jazz-based poems and prose describing a fictional character's life.

So...yeah....here is where it brought me.
It was also nice to write about things not just concerning me for a change xD
